Bach flowers, to regulate your emotions


Invented in the 1930s by an English doctor, the flower essences of Bach Flowers are gaining more and more followers who find a way to allay their anxieties.

Doctor and homeopath, Dr Edward Bach believed that plants could regulate our emotions, contributing to moral and physical well-being. In the 1930s, he identified 38 flower essences intended to treat various forms of discomfort.

He defines seven main emotions: fear, uncertainty, lack of interest in the present, loneliness, hypersensitivity, hopelessness, and excessive concern for others. Each of them can be expressed in different ways (despair, apathy, indecision ...) and lead to somatization expressed by headaches, insomnia, heartburn ... So many ailments that can be regulated thanks to ingestion of one or more suitable essences. If the method is not scientifically proven, it has convinced many followers: maybe it is enough to believe it?

The 38 flower essences are prepared with flowers and plants immersed in water and macerated in the sun to which alcohol is added. They are still made today near the home of Edward Bach (now a training center), in the English countryside, near Oxford. On sale in pharmacies and organic stores, they are taken orally, two drops in a glass of water - or directly in the mouth - four times a day.

You can combine several essences to adjust their effects to your needs, so you can mix two drops of each in a glass of water. Thus, the “Rescue” range, Bach Flowers bestseller, is a mixture of five flower essences (impatience, star of Bethlehem, prunus, helianthemum, clematis and white chestnut). Conceived to face the tests triggering a significant stress - examination, maintenance, etc - it is sold in bottle but also in the form of pills, spray, pastilles and even… chewing-gum!
