Melon: benefits and virtues


There are many varieties of melon, like winter melon, which are yellow in color and oval in shape with very pale flesh. But the most consumed by the French remains Cantaloup-Charentais melon, round and with orange flesh.

It is produced in the south of France and in the central west region. After Spain and Italy, we are the third largest producer of melons in Europe.

The melon is a shield against infections. It contributes to immune system by stimulating the synthesis of immune cells.

Melon also stimulates the production of the mood hormone serotonin. A lack of serotonin can be responsible for a depressed state.

The melon can dampen theacidity of the liver, the itching and the inflammation of the skin.

In addition, melon restores radiance to the skin, prepares the skin for the sun and intensifies the tan, like the carrot. It also strengthens the skin appendages.

Melon can be enjoyed as a smoothie, sorbet, salad, raw, as a starter or as a dessert.

How to choose a melon?

To choose your melon, check the stalk. If it comes off easily, your melon is ripe.

Are your intestines playing tricks on you? Better to eat your melon at room temperature than fresh.

For lovers of sweet and savory, melon can be eaten on skewers, with Bayonne ham, cherry tomatoes and diced mozzarella.

The nutritional contributions of melon: 32 kcal / 100g, 0.14g of lipids, 7g of carbohydrates.

Very low in calories, it fits very well into diets.

As the glycemic index of melon is low, it is not conducive to hyperglycemia and is therefore not contraindicated in diabetics or in cases of obesity.

Add melon seeds to your salads.
