Has anyone used this product before. My local nursery, Sierra View out in Clovis CA, suggested this and was of the opinion that it is perfectly safe. I put tangle foot on the trunks, sprayed with water to try and get them off and have killed them with my hands. Any thoughts? Has anyone heard of the bug blaster? Aphids do a bit of damage in Spring. But they've never killed any of my plants. I keep a close eye when temperatures warm in spring. When I find them, I just blast the plants supporting them as much as I can a couple of times a week with a regular garden sprayer.

Now I've finally controlled them. They will go away with summer coming up ahead anyways. EDIT: I hop you know this. The tanglefoot is needed to prevent ants from crawling up trees and guarding the aphids.

They won't help if there are no ants. If aphid infestation is severe, cut those branches off and put it in a plastic bag without shaken the aphids off too much.

Mix dish washing soap with water and spray the infestation area. Afterward, blast the boogers with a regular garden sprayer. Inspect and blast it with water again the next day or two where you might have missed.

Continue on blasting until you are satisfy. Fascist Nation. I too was going to suggest an insecticidal soap like Safer next before Imidicloprid--especially this time of year--before bringing out the chemical weapons.

Bleedingdirt is correct not only do they rarely cause enough harm to worry though on new trees they may and they signal trees in stress but when the tempos start reaching F they disappear. Find all posts by Fascist Nation. I have had really bad issues with ants and aphids in the past.

I no longer have these issues. To begin with i use tangle foot on most of my trunks, especially ones that have ants placing aphids on it.

As far as the aphids go, I simply use mechanical means first ie i use my hand to rub them off the bottoms of leaves. Next, and like everyone is saying you can spray them with water and most will be forced off. I think what is important is to use the simple dish soap and not the antibacterials. The dishsoap simply adds a little base to the water and the aphids nor many other bug critters can survive. I have also used diamatacious earth DE quite effectively.

DE is perfectly safe to eat or be on your skin, but the dust in your lungs is not good. All in all, i have not used any chemicals now for 5 years with the aforementioned. I've had continuous aphid infestations in my young Okra seedlings. Last week, I sprayed them with some neem oil and a touch of dish washing liquid diluted in water. I haven't seen them come back yet.
