This course is one of only a few like it in Ireland and runs from mid September to late May. It features lectures, demonstrations and group discussions, field trips and tours. The course consists of modules, some of which are nationally written and common to other Education bodies under Quality and Qualifications Ireland QQI. Many of the modules have been specially written by teachers within the Organic and Co-operative movement. Because it is modular based and nationally certified, students wishing to continue to study further can have their awards recognised at whatever level achieved. Add to Shortlist. In this course you will learn about the principles and practices of permaculture. You will explore the ideas surrounding permaculture, the theories and principles on which permaculture is based and look at a range of practical applications to give a broad overview of what can be done and how. It is delivered online using our Virtual Classroom. With so much focus on the environment across the world the principles of permaculture address many of the issues involved.

We are running this course again following its success last year. It is delivered by a senior member of our horticulture team with long experience in the industry.

During the 6 sessions you will have the opportunity to work with others in discussing the benefits of permaculture and work collectively to develop some of the skills involved- due to the nature of the class evening online it will not be possible to undertake outdoor work during the sessions, but those on the course will be encouraged to practice these skills in their own time.

There are also a range of online virtual evening classes on other specialist horticulture topics during the year. There are no entry requirements for this course excepting an enthusiasm to learn more about permaculture in the company of like-minded individuals. Once I complete my course, my dream is to work for The National Trust or travel and find employment in gardens abroad. The course has helped me see all the opportunities available to me, so I feel confident my future looks bright.

The Certificate in Advanced Horticulture is an individually-designed program of credits of graduate coursework in Horticultural Science.The Certificate is designed to offer individually-tailored graduate-level coursework to students who want to position themselves to advance their careers in Horticulture; augment graduate training in an allied discipline, such as Entomology or Plant Pathology; or gain knowledge for a career-change into Horticulture. The program can be completed with online courses, face-to-face courses, or via a combination of distance and classroom coursework, depending upon each student's geographical location and preferences. Following is a list of courses that are always available for Certificate completion, but in consultation with their advisor, students may select alternative coursework to meet their personal educational objectives and goals. The Certificate requires that at least 3 credits of coursework provide a basis in horticultural crop physiology examples in Group A below. Upon completing the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Horticulture, students will: 1 Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the basic plant physiology associated with plants in horticultural systems; and 2 Demonstrate a proficiency in advanced principles and practices in horticultural systems. People wishing to look at garden design on a more commercial and practical basis may wish to use it as a starting point before moving on to a higher level course or consider a full time course at the college.
