A Practice of Offering the Body

by Patrul Rinpoche

pé

Phaṭ!

sangye chö dang tsok kyi chok nam la

In the Buddha, the Dharma and the Supreme Assembly

changchub bardu dak ni kyab su chi

I take refuge until I attain enlightenment.

dak gi jin sok gyipé sönam kyi

Through the merit of practising generosity and so on,

dro la pen chir sangye drubpar shok

May I attain buddhahood for the benefit of all beings.

pé

Phaṭ!

Three times

lü dang dezhin longchö dang

My own body and all that I possess,

dü sum gewa tamché kyang

My past, present and future virtues—

semchen kün gyi dön drub chir

I dedicate them all, withholding nothing,

pangpa mepar tangwar ja

To bring about the benefit of beings.

tamché tangwé nya ngen da

By letting go of all I shall attain nirvāṇa,

dak lo nya ngen depa drub

The transcendence of misery I seek.1

pé

Phaṭ!

pendé semchen kün la ngo

I dedicate benefit and happiness to all beings:

kün kyang sangye tobpar shok

May everyone attain enlightenment!

dukngal malü dak la dü

Let all suffering be gathered into me:

dro kün dukngal lé drol shok

May every being be freed from sorrow!

pé

Phaṭ!

This represents the accumulation of merit.

The accumulation of wisdom is as follows.

pé

Phaṭ!

gang tsé ngö dang ngömé dak

When the notions of real and unreal

lo yi dün na mi nepa

Are absent from before the mind,

detsé nampa zhen mepé

Then there is no other possibility

mikpa mepar rabtu zhi

But to rest in total peace beyond concepts.2

tröpa mepa tongpé ying

The basic space of emptiness beyond conceptual elaboration

sherab parol pinpa o

Is the transcendent perfection of wisdom.

dü sum tokpa ying su dak

Thoughts associated with the three times are purified in basic space.

di la salja chiyang mé

In this, there is not a thing to be removed,

zhakpar jawa chungzé mé

Nor the slightest thing to be added.

yangdak nyi la yangdak ta

It is looking perfectly into reality itself,

yangdak tong na nampar drol

And when reality is seen, complete liberation.3

pé

Phaṭ!

Finally, the dedication and aspiration:

gewa di yi kyewo kün

Through this merit, may all beings

sönam yeshe tsok dzok shing

Complete the accumulations of merit and wisdom,

sönam yeshe lé jungwé

And so attain the sublime two kāyas

dampa ku nyi tobpar shok

That come from merit and wisdom.4

dezhin namkhé té tukpé

Just so, in all the realms of beings,

semchen kham la namkün tu

As far as space itself pervades,

tamché nya ngen dé bardu

May I be a source of all that life requires,

dak ni nyer tsö gyur yang shok

Until beings pass beyond saṃsāra’s pain.5

namo tsok kyi lam dang jorwé lam

Namo! The path of accumulation, path of joining,

tongwé lam dang gompé lam

Path of seeing, path of meditation,

lanamepa khyepar lam

And the special path that is unsurpassed.

barché mepé lam drö né

Traversing these paths without obstacle,

ma yumchen gopang tobpar shok

May we attain the state of the Great Mother!6
