Prayer to Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo

༄༅། །ཐམས་ཅད་མཁྱེན་ཅིང་གཟིགས་པ་འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་པོའི་རྣམ་ཐར་གསོལ་འདེབས་མདོར་བསྡུས།

A Short Prayer Based on the Life and Liberation of the All-Knowing, All-Seeing Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo

ན་མོ་གུར་མཉྫུ་གྷོ་ཥ་ཡ།

Namo guru mañjughoṣāya!

 

གངས་ལྗོངས་བསྟན་འཛིན་ཡོངས་ཀྱི་གཙུག་གི་རྒྱན། །

gangjong tendzin yong kyi tsuk gi gyen

Crown adornment of all the holders of the teachings in the Land of Snows,

ཀུན་གཟིགས་འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་པོ་ནི། །

künzik jamyang khyentsé wangpo ni

All-seeing Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo,

སྡེ་དགེ་གཏེར་ལྷུང་གཉོས་རིགས་སྐུ་འཁྲུངས་ཤིང་། །

derge ter lhung nyö rik ku trung shing

You were born into the Nyö family in Terlhung in Derge.

མཚན་ལྡན་བླ་མ་བརྒྱ་དང་ལྔ་བཅུ་བསྟེན། །

tsenden lama gya dang ngabchu ten

You followed1 a hundred and fifty authentic teachers,

གསར་རྙིང་ཆོས་ཚུལ་པོད་ཆེན་བདུན་བརྒྱ་གསན། །

sar nying chö tsul pö chen düngya sen

And received more than seven hundred volumes of the Sarma and Nyingma teachings.

རིས་བྲལ་གྲུབ་མཐའ་ཀུན་གྱི་བསྟན་སྲོག་བཟུང་། །

ridral drubta kün gyi ten sok zung

Without sectarian bias, you revitalised the teachings of all schools

སྲོལ་ལུགས་སོ་སོའི་སྲོག་གནད་ཟིན་པ་ཡི། །

sol luk sosö sok né zinpa yi

And maintained the vital points of each individual tradition,

དམ་པ་མང་བྱོན་སྐྱེས་མཆོག་འདི་ཡི་དྲིན། །

dampa mang jön kyechok di yi drin

So that numerous eminent masters appeared—such is your kindness, sublime one.

འདི་ལས་བསྟན་རྒྱུན་ཕན་པའི་མགོན་སུ་ཞིག །

di lé ten gyün penpé gön su zhik

Who else has been such a protector? Of such service to the stream of teachings?

 

འདི་ཡི་ཕྲིན་ལས་བརྒྱུད་ནས་ས་ཆེན་ཁྱབ། །

di yi trinlé gyü né sa chen khyab

Your activity has permeated the entire world.

ཁྱད་པར་གྲུབ་དབང་ཐང་སྟོང་རྒྱལ་པོ་ནས། །

khyepar drubwang tangtong gyalpo né

In particular, you sedulously received the whispered transmissions passed down without interruption

ད་བར་མ་ཆད་པའི་སྙན་བརྒྱུད་རྣམས། །

da bar machepé nyengyü nam

From the lord of siddhas Thangtong Gyalpo himself,

ནན་ཏན་མནོས་ནས་ཐུགས་ཉམས་ལེགས་བསྟར་ཏེ། །

nenten nö né tuk nyam lek tar té

And applied them perfectly in practice.

གདམས་ངག་གཞན་ལས་གསང་སྤྱོད་སྙན་བརྒྱུད་ལ། །

damngak zhen lé sangchö nyengyü la

You held the Whispered Transmission of Secret Conduct to be

མཁས་པར་ཞལ་གྱིས་བཞེས་ནས་སྐལ་ལྡན་བསྐྱང་། །

khepar zhal gyi zhé né kalden kyang

More effective than other instructions; you nurtured fortunate disciples

སྙན་བརྒྱུད་འདི་ཡི་བསྟན་པའི་བདག་པོ་གྲུབ། །

nyengyü di yi tenpé dakpo drub

And became a master of these Whispered Transmission teachings.

 

ཐང་སྟོང་སྒྲུབ་ཐབས་སྙིང་པོ་སྐོར་ལྔ་དང་། །

tangtong drubtab nyingpo kor nga dang

The fivefold cycle of essential sādhanas,2

གྲུབ་ཐོབ་ཐུགས་ཏིག་བཀའ་བརྒྱད་མགོན་པོ་སོགས། །

drubtob tuk tik kagyé gönpo sok

The Essence of the Mahāsiddha's Wisdom Mind,3 Kagyé, Mahākāla and the rest—

ཡེ་ཤེས་སྐུ་ཅན་དེ་དང་དབྱེར་མེད་པར། །

yeshe kuchen dé dang yermé par

Indivisible from the master in his wisdom form,

དགོངས་བརྒྱུད་བྱིན་རླབས་ཕ་ཕོག་ཐུགས་ལ་འཕོས། །

gonggyü jinlab pa pok tuk la pö

You received the patrimonial blessings of these mind-direct transmission as they were transferred into your wisdom mind.

 

བཤད་བརྒྱུད་བཅུ་དང་སྒྲུབ་བརྒྱུད་ཤིང་རྟ་བརྒྱད། །

shé gyü chu dang drubgyü shingta gyé

The tenfold lineage of exposition, the eight chariots of the practice lineage,

བཀའ་བབས་བདུན་དང་ཁྱད་པར་ཐང་སྟོང་པའི། །

kabab dün dang khyepar tangtong pé

The seven major transmissions and especially

བཀའ་བབས་བརྒྱད་དང་བཀའ་བབས་ལྔ་ལྡན་གྱི། །

kabab gyé dang kabab ngaden gyi

The five and eight transmissions of Thangtong Gyalpo—

སྟོན་མཆོག་འོད་གསལ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེར་འདུད། །

tön chok ösal trulpé dorjér dü

Supreme teacher of them all, Ösal Trulpé Dorje, to you I bow.

 

མཁྱེན་རབ་ཆེན་པོས་ཡོངས་རྫོགས་བསྟན་གནད་གཟིགས། །

khyen rab chenpö yongdzok ten né zik

With vast wisdom you saw the crucial points of all the teachings,

བརྩེ་བ་ཆེན་པོས་གྲངས་མེད་གདུལ་བྱ་སྨིན། །

tsewa chenpö drangmé dulja min

With vast love you brought countless disciples to maturity,

ནུས་མཐུ་ཆེན་པོས་ཀླ་ཀློ་གདུག་ཅན་བཟློག །

nütu chenpö lalo dukchen dok

With vast power you drove away malevolent barbarians—

མཁས་གྲུབ་ཆེན་པོ་ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

khedrub chenpo khyé kyi jingyi lob

Great scholar and adept, inspire me with your blessings!

 

ཞེས་པའང་ཀཿཐོག་སི་ཏུ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱ་མཚོ་བཤད་སྒྲུབ་བསྟན་པའི་ཉི་མས་རྗེ་གྲུབ་ཐོབ་ཆེན་པོའི་གསུང་གི་གདན་ས། དཔལ་ཆུ་བོ་རིའི་བླ་བྲང་དུ་སྦྱར་བ་དགེའོ།།

Thus, Katok Situ Chökyi Gyatso Shedrup Tenpé Nyima wrote this at the place of the Mahāsiddha's enlightened speech, the lama's residence at glorious Chuwori. May it prove virtuous!
