Ready, Set, Connect!, a workforce development program provided by the Oakland Public Library and Community Technology Network, is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year.
Ready, Set, Connect! (RSC!) provides free technology and leadership job training to 20 youth between the ages of 16 and 24 from Alameda County. Participants gain valuable work experience as digital literacy trainers at Oakland Public Library branches. RSC! begins in October and ends on June 2, 2016. Apply online by end of day, September 22, 2015.
RSC! participants will learn how to use graphic and web technologies, as well as social media and graphic design tools. Youth are mentored by employees at Bay Area technology companies, receiving help in resume creation, job search skills, and interviewing.

I joined RSC! my junior year of high school. When I joined, I expected to have a boring library job, but I have gained much more than community service hours. I’ve gained leadership skills, marketing, and resume building, and I have even visited a few of the top tech companies. Tutoring at the main library has changed my life, and I am happy that I was able to help.
RSC! applicants must be between 16 and 24 years old, know how to use a computer and surf the Internet, and be enthusiastic and willing to learn. Applicants must be available twice a week and be able to dedicate up to 5 hours each week. Youth that speak Spanish and Chinese are encouraged to apply.
