Microsoft is dedicated to employee engagement. The company matches employee donations of time and money to nonprofit organizations. Microsoft provided central Texas learners with two unique training opportunities through CTN’s Tech Teach-In program. The teach-ins match corporate volunteers with community members looking to improve their digital skills and take advantage of what their digital devices can offer.
On July 27, participants in the Lab Apprenticeship Program traveled to Microsoft’s Domain location to learn about its Office suite. On August 10, Microsoft community development specialist Joshua Dunham and business expert Adrian Gutierrez facilitated training to older adults at CTN’s Connect @ Home location Wildflower Terrace in the Mueller development.
Microsoft provides an array of workshops for educators, state and local government, and the general public that cover anything related to Office 365. In most of the workshops, they cover navigating comfortably in the programs and also talk about new features and tips for those converting from previous versions. In addition to their volunteer time, for every hour that a Microsoft employee donates to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the company matches that with a $25 donation.
Joshua says that getting out into the community is a favorite part of the job. “We are always looking for volunteer opportunities within our area and want to know how we can better support our community!”
