Amplify Austin Day, the city’s annual day of giving, was Thursday, February 28, 2019. The 24-hour period provides an easy way for the community to give together while helping local nonprofits. Over the past six years, Amplify Austin has raised $45 million for hundreds of local organizations.
Community Tech Network is pleased to announce that we raised 68 percent of our goal to support a pilot program in conjuction with Austin Independent School District: the Digital Parents Project, which will bring access and digital literacy training to parents in the Austin divide.
Some 51 percent of AISD parents are seriously economically disadvantaged. Among that group, several parents face more serious challenges when preparing their children for the next semester. Without stable internet access, it has become extremely difficult for economically disadvantaged parents to enroll their kids in school, apply for programs, and complete necessary paperwork. Fast, secure internet at home is a requirement to set children off on the right foot.
With support from the AISD Parent Support Specialists, CTN will identify, recruit, and train 25 families (parents) with the greatest need to participate in the pilot program at Martin Junior High in East Austin.
It’s not too late to help CTN deliver similar digital literacy programs to more Austin schools. Donate to the Digital Parents Project on CTN’s website.
