We are excited to welcome 11 new technology trainers from the University of San Francisco! These students come from different majors, ranging from business, economics, and finance to international studies. They bring their commitment to bridging the digital divide and to serving their community. We think they’re great, and we hear from our learners and partners just how enthusiastic and empathetic the tutors have been.
Because of their ability to speak a second language, the USF service learners have reached even more seniors. Using Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, Hindi, and Urdu, they have helped our learners at the Western Addition Senior Center, Rosa Parks Senior Center, Richmond Senior Center, and Chinatown YWCA.
The USF students also play an important role in helping seniors get closer to accessing low-income housing. From October 1 to October 28, at Western Addition and Rosa Parks, seniors can get help from our tutors with the online application for 117 new affordable housing units at the Dr. George W. Davis Senior Residence in the Bayview district. Our USF tutors have successfully assisted a number of people in completing the complex online application. It is more and more common to find housing applications only available online these days, so it is crucial for our learners to have support with this.
