In 2022, CTN was selected as one of three organizations to provide digital literacy as part of the California Department of Aging’s Connections, Health, Aging, and Technology (CHAT) program. The project delivers iPads to low-income and disabled adults, and CTN has been providing individuals with personalized support to help them learn to use their devices. Our goal is to support 500 seniors statewide through this initiative.
So far, our involvement has been a huge success! We’re thrilled to share some statistics from recent surveys with learners.
All of our learners said that they would highly recommend this program to others, and 80% said that they feel more connected to their families and friends after taking CTN’s digital literacy courses.
When learners were asked what new and useful digital skills they learned through CTN, these were some of their responses:
- “I can watch YouTube, listen to podcasts, and check my emails and websites all while in my easy chair or in bed. I couldn’t do this before with my desktop computer!”
- “This helped me a lot. I use FaceTime, shop online, and find stores by using Siri!”
- “I learned how to [stay in touch with people] through text and email.”
Other folks said that they also learned how to play games, send old photos, and upload forms.
We also asked learners what they liked about the program. Some responses were:
- “Getting help regarding how to use Zoom was fantastic.”
- “This program helped me feel more connected to the world and my [community].”
- “There was nonjudgmental teaching. [The instructors] didn’t make me feel inadequate.”
- “The trainer helped me a lot. She was flexible and patient and answered all my questions.”
- “This is a great device. I wish I had one earlier.”
- “I wish I knew about programs like this a long time ago. My life would have been a lot easier.”
The project will continue to run until June 2023. We are so happy to be a part of it!
