Last month, CTN organized a meeting in San Leandro with the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) so they could share information about their different grant programs focused on digital inclusion. Pictured here are a few of the attendees and speakers: Tony Batalla from the City of San Leandro, Taylor Cheim from the CPUC, Elijah Mermin from the City of Sunnyvale, and Gladys Palpallatoc and Susan Walters from CETF.
We discussed eligibility, heard details about each program, and learned about the application process and deadlines. Representatives from the CPUC and CETF were there and presented on the following funding opportunities:
- Broadband Adoption Grant Program: To support the goal of being the leader in national and global broadband adoption, California has designated $20 million for grants to increase broadband access and digital inclusion. These funds will be distributed by the California Public Utilities Commission. The next deadline is January 1, 2019. - Access Broadband Connect (ABC) Grants: CETF is pleased to announce grants in collaboration with Frontier Communications and Charter/Spectrum with a focus on broadband subscriptions by low-income households. The next letter of interest (LOI) application period is January 15 to February 1, 2019.
If your organization or agency is working with people on the other side of the digital divide, these grants are a great opportunity to fund staff and devices to address the need.
