Thanks to a newsletter from the Sourcewise senior center, 82-year-old Sharon P. discovered CTN’s programs, which allowed her to learn how to use an iPad and keep up with the ever-evolving digital world.
One of the most delightful aspects of Sharon’s journey has been her newfound ability to stay more connected to her community. She loves being able to find out about events at her church and the senior center, ensuring she never misses out on activities that matter to her. “My church sends out emails every Friday about upcoming events, and I like to keep up with those. … I also explore [online] the different classes offered at the senior center,” she said. This newfound connectivity has brought a sense of involvement and engagement to her daily routine.
Another significant benefit Sharon has found is the ease of use that comes with the iPad’s large screen. “The iPad is helpful for visibility. The larger screen makes it easier to read and interact with content compared to my phone,” she explained. This advantage makes reading long documents, viewing photos, and navigating websites much more comfortable and enjoyable for her.
Sharon has also been interested in learning to use technology for research and practical purposes. From managing her credit card and checking statements online to planning trips, Sharon has integrated digital tools seamlessly into her life. “I also look up products that I need and explore sites to find better prices,” she adds. Additionally, Sharon enjoys keeping up with email and finding instructional videos on YouTube for everything from gardening tips to understanding new appliances.
Sharon’s advice to anyone hesitant about joining a similar program is simple and encouraging. “It’s not costing them a penny, so they should definitely give it a try. This program offers a wonderful opportunity to learn something new without any financial risk. Even if they feel intimidated by technology, the program is designed to be beginner-friendly and supportive,” she assured.
Personally, Sharon speaks highly of the program’s structure, praising its intuitive and easy-to-follow lessons. “The instructions were clear, and the lessons were designed in a way that made it easy to grasp the concepts. I found the class very engaging and enjoyable.”
Her enthusiasm for the program and its benefits is clear. She demonstrates that learning and growth are lifelong pursuits, and with the right support, anyone can master new skills and enrich their daily lives.
