The computer lab was packed at the Downtown Senior Center when the Basic Computer Skills class started on April 9. Every computer was occupied, and the seniors eagerly waited to learn about how to use them. CTN’s basic computer skills class provides seniors with an eight-week curriculum that covers basic computer parts, the Internet, email, and social media.
On the first day, seniors were acclimated to the basic hardware parts and some of the software installed on the center’s HP TouchSmart desktop computers. Many were excited to learn that the computers were touch screen. One senior mentioned that he has used the computers a few times but did not know they were touch screen.
All the seniors were excited about coming to class the following week. One said he thought society had forgotten about the senior population, so he was grateful we were offering the classes to teach them. CTN is thankful for the partnership with Downtown Senior Center, an SF Connected program partner, that enables us to provide this class to clients in the program.
