BREAKING NEWS!

Partners

The California Department of Aging recently awarded millions of dollars to counties across the state to help bridge the digital divide for older adults (60+) and adults with disabilities (18+). Community Tech Network has partnered with San Mateo and Sonoma counties, to help them efficiently implement their funding.

As part of this work, CTN and local agencies will provide free devices and digital literacy training (both remotely and in-person) in up to eight different languages. Our goal is to reduce learners’ isolation, increase their social connections, and enhance their self-confidence and self-sufficiency in navigating digital and online resources.

We are so thrilled to be part of this initiative! Read our announcement about the partnerships and stay tuned throughout the year for more updates.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHTS

El Buen

El Buen Samaritano (EBS), a Texas-based organization serving the Latinx community, is ready to take their technology course offerings to the next level. As part of DigitalLIFT, CTN trained the EBS team to become effective digital literacy instructors, and we designed a new curriculum for them.

Says Isabel Bernal from EBS, “The fact that CTN was able to put everything together to specifically meet our needs was the best part. …They made sure that they understood what we needed, what programs we offered, and what topics we were planning to teach with the curriculum. They customized everything for us.” Learn more about the tailored support that we provided EBS.

LLSLutheran Social Services (LSS) of Northern California provides recently homeless youth with the tools to build a stable future. For the first time ever, CTN recently offered LSS learners a course on Canva, which is used for graphic design and video editing.

Says CTN’s Jessica Pasquarello, “Nowadays, young people are using social media to launch their careers. … Using tools like Canva allows folks to publish more professional-looking content and really gives them a leg up.” Read more about this new course offering.

MAY IS OLDER AMERICANS MONTH!

Older Americans

Did you know that over 42% of older adults (60+) in the U.S. are offline? You can support us as we help older folks get connected by making a donation or spreading the word about CTN and our work. Learn more about our Older Americans Month campaign.

CTN ADVOCACY

  • Digital equity is a worker’s rights issue. Internet access can of course support folks in their search for meaningful employment, but as many human resources (HR) procedures and labor unions have also become digitized, getting everyone connected is more important than ever! Check out our blog for more.
  • Between 3.5 and 7 billion trees are cut down globally each year, about 40% of which is used to produce paper. When folks have access to high-speed internet and devices, as well as the skills to use these technologies, they can greatly reduce their paper use, thereby playing a small role in the fight against deforestation and global warming. Read our blog to learn about other ways that you can make your tech habits more eco-friendly.
