Kelly McKean says that CTN’s digital literacy training has greatly helped address local needs for digital inclusion. CTN’s courses offer 1:1 tutoring and are available in multiple languages.
Explains Kelly: “Our computer training lab has 36 computers for adults, but if someone needs help in doing something specific — such as making an email account or applying online for a job — we don’t have the staff capacity to provide everyone with 1:1 assistance. … CTN is providing a really valuable service for the community.”
CTN’s array of bilingual tutors was also appealing to the library. “In Milpitas, 67% of residents speak a language other than English. There are diverse language needs here that we couldn’t meet on our own.”
So far, the reception has been positive. Kelly says that all of the recent library patrons who participated in tutoring with CTN have signed up for a second session. She also shared some comments from learners:
- “[My tutor] was so great! This is what I really needed. I’m so happy with what I’ve learned!”
- “This service was so helpful to me. Now, I need some more help with Photoshop, and I’ve signed up for another appointment.”
Seeing the learners’ progress is exciting for Kelly, who believes that bridging the digital divide is extremely important.
