AT&T also expands its affordable internet program for eligible families.
AT&T California recently awarded a $20,000 grant to Community Tech Network to provide digital literacy training to home-bound seniors who are most at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds will enable CTN’s Home Connect program to purchase tablets and provide virtual training to 100 vulnerable seniors.
The Center for Disease Control estimates that those 65 years or older account for approximately 80 percent of U.S. COVID deaths. The continuation of shelter-in-place orders for seniors has led to more isolation and depression in that vulnerable group. CTN training and support educates this population on how to stay safe on the internet, how to avoid scams, and how to conduct video visits with their doctors, friends, and family. In addition, our training teaches seniors how to easily order medication, groceries, and other necessities online. CTN’s staff helps seniors sign up for internet service, provides them with a preconfigured tablet, and conducts three months of virtual training and support in English, Spanish, Cantonese, and Russian.
