Last month, Al Ho, the technology lead at Community Tech Network (CTN), headed to Harvard University to conduct research on structural biology and molecular pharmacology. By looking at the molecular levels of proteins, he will be using the same techniques that were applied when developing recent COVID-19 vaccines.
We are thrilled for Al as he embarks on his new journey, but he will greatly be missed at CTN. As Al moves on to this next career stop, we want to celebrate his time with our organization.
Al joined CTN in August 2019. He began as a bilingual (Cantonese and English) digital literacy instructor and taught in-person group classes in various senior centers and housing developments across the Bay Area. He also later provided 1:1 remote instruction through CTN’s Home Connect program.
As technology lead, Al wore many hats. He participated in business development discussions, oversaw programming, and helped with the organization’s long-term planning. He also oversaw record keeping, all while still providing instruction to students.
“Working with CTN was a great experience,” says Al. “It was amazing to find people so passionate about the work that they were doing. Prior to CTN, I worked in Silicon Valley, where it was so different. People don’t just work at CTN for a job. They work there for a reason — to make a difference.”
Personally, Al had many “mission moments” at CTN, which highlighted for him the impact of his work. “I loved seeing the learners get excited. I remember helping one Home Connect learner who was so excited when she received her tablet from CTN that her hands started shaking. She never thought she would have such an opportunity [to get online].”
We are so grateful for all of the incredible support that Al provided CTN and our many learners over the past three years.
