Carol joined CTN in February of 2019 as CTN’s first Encore Fellow and operations director. This wide-ranging role has given Carol the opportunity to manage CTN’s Digital Literacy Awards; find an IT consultant; assist in fundraising, project evaluation, and strategic planning; create and edit policies and partnership documents; and support staff and volunteers. Carol’s Fellowship with Encore recently ended, but she will continue in her current position. CTN’s mission, Transforming Lives Through Digital Literacy, continues to be a perfect fit for Carol’s experience and interests.
Originally from Florida, Carol graduated from Notre Dame in the second class of women attending that institution. After a brief stint in Washington, D.C., working for the federal government, she moved to Chicago to take a job at the Chicago Board of Options Exchange. Changing careers, she received her M.S. in library and information science in 1995, worked for two years at a software company in Utah, and then became library director in Park City, Utah. Continuing west, she served as library director in Daly City, California, for eight years and then became executive director of the California Library Association. She was also one of the founders of Daly City Public Library Associates, which, since its inception in 2011, has provided over $225,000 to Daly City for the purchase of new books and technology, as well as improving Daly City’s four libraries.
Carol’s current role with CTN includes interviewing prospective digital coaches, and she has been instrumental in the onboarding of new coaches from around the country. “I love working at CTN,” Carol says. “Everyone in the organization is so passionate and committed to the mission. I believe that when you are expanding your workforce, it is just as important to hire the personality that will fit into the organization’s culture as it is to identify the right skill set. CTN has done a great job in that respect, and I am pleased to be part of that process.” She credits her success to “learning from every job you held and from every colleague.” Carol adds, “Regardless of what the new normal looks like post-COVID, the importance of Home Connect, CTN’s distance learning digital literacy training platform, will continue to grow and expand. This type of technology training and support is here to stay, and I am proud to be part of it.”
