CTN has a new staff member: Andrea Guzmán is the new Program Coordinator for the Ready, Set, Connect! program in partnership with the Oakland Public Library. CTN is going into the third year of this program, and Andrea will be helping to sustain this highly successful youth development program. We asked Andrea to answer a few questions so we could get to know her better.
Tell us about the experience you have coming into this position.
I started out with CTN as an intern in the Ready, Set, Connect! program in 2013 and am excited to step in as the coordinator for the program! I graduated from Bard College at Simon’s Rock in 2011 with a BA degree in economics and cultural studies. A substantial part of my work background is in youth development and working with underserved and maginalized populations. I also have experience with digital marketing, social media, and website development, along with visual and multimedia arts.
Why do you think digital literacy is important in our society?
Why is reading or financial literacy important? These are crucial tools to be able to navigate, create, and be sustainable. Without them a lot of people are left behind, lack access to resources, or cannot grow to the full extent that they should be able to.
Why are you excited to be working for CTN?
The Ready, Set, Connect! Program had a real positive impact on me. I was so honored when I was invited to apply and even more so when I got the job! I love working in supportive settings and in programs that help young people access real opportunities for upwards mobility and sustainability.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When I have it, I tend to volunteer or involve myself in community projects. I also like to read, eat, ride my bike, or work on art experiments.
