At Community Tech Network, our goal is to bridge the digital divide by providing technology access and digital skills training to low-income older adults and other marginalized communities. As essential services like communication and telehealth move increasingly online, folks without basic tech knowledge often get left behind, especially along racial and socioeconomic lines.
If your company is interested in promoting digital inclusion with us, you can play an important role in our mission. Whether you seek a tailored experience for a specific group within your company, such as an employee resource group, or want to participate in one of CTN’s special events, we’d love to have you join us.
Our programs serve older adults in community centers all around San Francisco, and we’ll collaborate with you to find a volunteering opportunity that best fits your team’s needs. Whether you want to volunteer somewhere close to your office, serve older adults from a specific community or language group, or join an already-planned CTN event, your company’s presence greatly increases our capacity, especially if any members of your group speak another language, such as Cantonese, Mandarin, or Spanish.
If you want to get an idea of what volunteering with CTN looks like, join us for a one-time event in San Francisco! From device distribution events, tech support drop-in events, and digital literacy workshops, your group can leverage their basic tech knowledge and empathy in many ways. Whether you’re a cybersecurity company with helpful knowledge about internet safety or a bank with a useful financial literacy tool, you can help older adults learn essential skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Even if you don’t consider yourself tech savvy, our events always need volunteers to assist with sign-ins and premade technology lessons. We held 20 device distribution events in the last year alone, so there’s always room for your group, regardless of your timeframe.
Our team is also available to create a custom experience if our current offerings don’t fit your group’s needs. We worked with Gen Digital to support volunteers who created a digital resource guide (which you can check out here) based on the experiences of other volunteers and the older adults we serve. We worked with Gen Digital and Visit.org to create a great experience that could be held for 50 employees on Gen Digital’s premises outside of San Francisco. It engaged employees of multiple disciplines, utilizing their knowledge of topics such as AI and cybersecurity.
