At Community Tech Network, we believe that access to technology can transform lives.
CTN’s Sabrina Tam recently collected anonymous quotes from some of our learners who discussed the benefits of getting online and why they have enjoyed our classes.
“Even now things have reopened [after COVID], I don’t go out too much due to safety reasons. The neighborhood has gone bad with lots of crime and people using drugs on the streets. I don’t feel safe going out. I’m glad that I have the tablet to keep me busy. I can follow videos to do exercise every day, and I like to watch cooking shows.”
“I like to learn about technology because I didn’t know anything before. I have been practicing for a while … sending photos, using Snapchat with my friends. I am able to make appointments online now with the doctor’s office.”
“Some seniors are having a hard time catching up. I strive my best to be more independent. I want to get help from others, not from my own children.”
“I want to thank CTN for giving me the tablet and teaching me how to use it. I used to be very active at the senior center in the past, but everything was shut down three years ago. I had to stay at home all day. The tablet kept me entertained and [allowed me to] stay connected to others.”
“I appreciate CTN and the instructors who gave me the tablet and taught me how to use it. Now I know how to get online to do little things like looking up a restaurant.”
“I like to attend CTN’s weekly Q&A sessions* to listen to other people’s questions [about technology]. Even though I know I probably won’t use the new app or new tool, I am happy to just give it a try to understand what it is. Just to do it as practice.”
“I keep an open mind with new technology. I really think that the tablet has helped me survive the lockdown days. I don’t have a TV. The tablet allows me and my husband to stay connected with the outside world. Kept us up to date with the latest news.”
*In addition to formal classes, CTN also hosts Q&A sessions to answer any specific questions that learners might have about their devices and provide ongoing tech support.
