In April, CTN began partnering with Sourcewise to provide over 400 seniors with Google Home speakers. This technology allows users to make calls, play music, request reminders, or receive news updates entirely by voice. For those who may have trouble navigating or viewing a screen, the speaker offers a convenient alternative way of accessing the benefits of the internet.
Recently, CTN staff joined Sourcewise staff to distribute speakers to seniors at the Yu-Ai-Kai. Located in San Jose, Yu-Ai-Kai is a senior community center that promotes healthy aging while embracing Japanese American tradition.
Though initially unsure what to expect, we ended up having 16 seniors join us at the event. Nearly all seniors who showed up were able to go home with their configured device along with a training manual. Recipients were eager to use the new device, and CTN digital literacy instructors Carlos and Jannette took time to explain how it works to ensure the success of every user.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with the CTN team for the last few months. They treat clients with care and dignity as they teach the clients how to use today’s technology. We recently hosted an event where CTN staff were there to recruit and train clients on how to use Google Home Smart Speakers as part of Sourcewise’s Digital Inclusion program. They are very welcoming and inviting to everyone. They establish an environment where clients feel safe as they navigate technology — and for many, it’s new territory. They have also been especially helpful in supporting the management of the program. We appreciate their can-do attitude and most of all, their support of our clients.”
CTN is equally appreciative of Sourcewise’s partnership on the Google Home speakers project. We are excited to find new ways for seniors to interact with technology and look forward to working with Sourcewise in the future.
