Recently, the Coalition of Agencies Serving the Elderly (CASE) — a collaborative of 40 San Francisco nonprofit organizations — partnered with the San Francisco Department of Disability and Aging Services to highlight the pandemic response of eight San Francisco nonprofits.
Their article series serves as a testament to the determination and creativity of SF organizations that continued to support older adults and adults with disabilities sheltering in place during the pandemic. Given the detrimental effects of social isolation on one’s health, the quick “pivots” of each of these organizations were crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of the city’s aging population.
CTN is proud to be among the organizations highlighted by CASE’s series. Our pandemic response included the launch of our first fully remote digital literacy training program, Home Connect. This program was specifically designed for older adults and adults with disabilities who had limited to no access to the internet at home.
Before the pandemic, many of our learners could attend a senior center or library to use the internet. When this was no longer an option, CTN quickly adapted to circumstances to ensure that our most vulnerable population could remain connected from the safety of their homes. Two years later, the Home Connect program continues to serve older adults in the Bay Area who lack a device or are unable to attend an in-person training. We currently work with 45 partner agencies across the city, and we are always looking for new partners who work with older adults in need of tech training.
