CTN works with a demographic that requires us to consider a variety of digital needs. For a staff member responsible for online marketing content as well as the delivery of training to learners, accessibility is a priority. We serve learners with different visual, hearing, mobile, and cognitive disabilities in most of our programs.
On Friday, September 14, CTN partners, staff, and volunteers learned about creating web content that is accessible for everyone, including people with disabilities. Hosted by Microassist, the training covered basic principles of accessibility when creating content. It considered the use of headings, zoom text, alt text for graphics, and content structure. We learned about the different types of disability classifications and assistive technologies used, as well as the free testing tools NoSquint and WAVE. The training was based on the current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, which are the global standard for web accessibility.
Breakfast and refreshments were provided by Austin nonprofit Empowered Coffee.
