Pictured here are two learners from a recent class that I taught at Bayview Commons Apartments, one of the many properties owned or managed by the San Francisco Housing Development Corporation (SFHDC). This is a new partnership, and we are excited to see our first class wrap up. It was very touching to receive this thank-you note from the class participants: “Dear Mr. Dean, thank you for not making us learn the way you wanted to teach, but teaching us the way we wanted to learn.”
I have been teaching learners in the Bayview – Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco for many years. This class at Bayview Commons is special since participants receive a free laptop after completing 8 hours of instruction and activities. The training covered basic computer vocabulary and features of the computer, Windows 10, keyboard and touchpad, email, online navigation, and how to access images and articles, as well as how to save and send with attachments. This initial class had seven learners consisting of adults and seniors with a wide range of skill levels from beginner and intermediate to one advanced learner.
As part of my work with CTN, I also offer weekly training to support the learners at the George W. Davis Senior Center, which is part of the SF Connected program (PDF) provided by the San Francisco Department of Aging and Adult Services.
