September 27 was National Voter Registration Day, and we are excited to support our learners as they exercise the important right and responsibility to vote. In order to provide this support, CTN is organizing online voter registration events at the following locations:
Downtown Senior Center: 10/12, 1:15 – 3:15 p.m.
Centro Latino de San Francisco: 10/13, 11:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m.
IT Bookman Senior Center: 10/20, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
We will have representatives from our Digital Literacy Corps on hand to help people check their registration status, request to vote by mail, change their language preferences, research candidates and propositions, and so on
Here’s a link to the Online Voter Registration Cheat Sheet we created for this purpose. You can use it to assist people through the online registration process. It goes step by step through the process of registering online with some typical questions and issues that may come up. It also provides information about simple, nonpartisan voting guides.
Pictured here are two people who recently registered to vote with the assistance of Community Technology Network. Timothy (left) registered to vote at our first workshop, which happened on September 30, and he will be casting his vote for the very first time. He was interested in learning more about the different political parties, so we showed him the party platforms.
Daniel, who recently became a U.S. citizen, asked us to help him register to vote, and we used the California Online Registration site in Spanish. He went through each step to complete the process. He was so excited that he took a picture of the confirmation page showing that he’s registered to vote. He was also excited that he could vote by mail. Daniel says, “This will be my first time voting ever, and it would be momentous if we elected the first female president!”
