Community Technology Network recently hosted another successful Comcast Internet Essentials sign-up event at the Willie B. Kennedy senior apartments. Comcast’s Scott Adams was on hand to present Ruilian Liang with a new laptop, which she won in the event’s raffle.
In 2011, Comcast established the $9.95/mo Internet Essentials program to address the needs of low-income Americans unable to get online. In six years, the program has become the nation’s largest, most comprehensive broadband adoption effort, resulting in more connected homes than with all similar programs combined.
Internet Essentials uses a three-part approach to address the barriers to broadband adoption by offering affordable Internet connectivity in the home, access to computer hardware, and partnering with local organizations to address digital literacy.
Community Technology Network has been happy to be part of that successful strategy to conquer the digital divide by continuing to offer the training and tutoring that underserved populations need to be engaged, connected, and prepared for the future.
