CTN’s Day of Equity: Free Digital Inclusion Webinars

  • October 2, 2023
  • General, Webinars

Digital Inclusion Week is an annual time to honor the work of digital equity advocates across the nation while simultaneously continuing the fight to bridge the digital divide.

In honor of this year’s National Digital Inclusion Week (October 2–7), Community Tech Network hosted a virtual Day of Equity on Thursday, October 5.

All day long (from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific time), our expert team of panelists offered virtual workshops about digital equity topics.

We hosted drawings each hour, and participants won free training packages, curriculum, and other prizes.

If you missed any of the webinars, you can click below to watch the recordings.

CTN’s 2023 Day of Equity Webinars:

9 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. CT — STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING

Join us for an engaging session which will include group discussion on scaling capacity, the expectation for equity and inclusion in digital skills building, and the critical need for learning from historical data in program planning, development, and implementation. Pulling from verifiable experience, all attendees will be encouraged to create successful daily practices to serve their communities with dignity, knowledge, and compassion. CLICK HERE TO WATCH

10 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. CT — ENGAGING LEARNERS WITH CULTURALLY INCLUSIVE INSTRUCTION

Translating a curriculum from English to a different language is only a baby step for providing culturally inclusive instruction. There are many more ways and strategies to engage non-English-speaking learners in technology skill training. Come to the webinar to hear how CTN instructors tailor our basic digital literacy training to various cultural groups, including Hispanic/Latino, Chinese, Russian, and more. CLICK HERE TO WATCH

11 a.m. PT /1 p.m. CT — ACP ADVOCACY — PLEASE DON’T TAKE MY ACP!

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides eligible households with a subsidized discount on broadband service and connected devices. With the number of households in need of the benefit outnumbering the number of households served and the projection of funds being spent down in 2024, it is critical for digital inclusion practitioners to advocate for the renewal of this valuable resource. CTN will lead a conversation on effective advocacy communication and share out the ACP Renewal Advocacy Toolkit. Participants will get to hear from real-world ACP recipients as to the value of the program. CLICK HERE TO WATCH

12 p.m. PT / 2 p.m. CT — STRATEGIES FOR PROFICIENT CLIENT INTAKE

This session focuses on the important role of the intake process for clients first engaging in a digital inclusion initiative. You will shadow an intake interview to see strategies for assessing the needs and assets of a client and how to work together to establish a plan of action based on the client’s own goals. We’ll also share our experience with data collection and record keeping to track the impact of our work. CLICK HERE TO WATCH

1 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. CT — PRINCIPLES OF DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP

This presentation focuses on empowering individuals to comfortably use the internet. While it is important to be safe, it is just as important not to be scared. A good digital citizen can confidently engage with the world in a variety of virtual environments. CTN will present fundamental components of how it teaches digital citizenship principles (including digital safety), while highlighting client success stories. CLICK HERE TO WATCH

2 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. CT — PREPARING INCLUSION SPECIALISTS FOR AN AI WORKFORCE

This session will be a holistic conversation with industry experts on the impact of artificial intelligence in the workplace and its effects on digital inclusion practice as a whole. Bring your questions and experiences to the session and we will discuss best practices for serving communities impacted by automated AI. CLICK HERE TO WATCH
