CTN offices in both San Francisco and Austin participated in this year’s Digital Inclusion Week, May 7 – 11, which was sponsored by the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA).
In San Francisco, the city libraries conducted a public tech expo where CTN and other local organizations offered information and resources for the latest technology training and programs. Mid-week, CTN facilitated a digital parenting class, teaching parents strategies to help their children with schoolwork, to connect with teachers and see their child’s progress through the District portal, and to ensure online safety for their children.
The week’s highlight was the annual Digital Leaders Awards, recognizing the people who are doing amazing work to bridge the technology divide and raise levels of digital literacy within San Francisco’s underserved communities.
In Austin, CTN held a series of events called Tech Teach-Ins. The Teach-Ins matched corporate volunteers with community members looking to improve their digital skills and take advantage of what their digital devices can offer. Nonprofit partners included the Housing Authority of the City of Austin and its nonprofit subsidiary Austin Pathways, Family Eldercare, and AGE of Central Texas. Corporate volunteers came from AT&T, Google, and Microsoft.
CTN in Austin will continue to offer Tech Teach-In events on a monthly basis, highlighting one nonprofit partner and one corporate partner. Events will begin in June with Google Serve.
